It would probably have been easier to buy a dash cover at Rockauto, but when you live outside the US, it’s very expensive to have it shipped plus import taxes etc.; It would end up in over $600. According to some buyers, dash cover quality is not great and it doesn’t fit that well. So my solution was to find a fabric to wrap the dashboard. I found something called “Illusion Full Grain”, an Ital...

Hi have you experienced that the engine oil level dropped to min level once after replaced the fuel filter? No matter i did refilled 200ml of engine oil and the oil level persistently in min level. There is no dropping of oil level before the replacement of the fuel filter. Do you have any idea over what kind of issue is that? Thanks
@@klkl5695 sorry I have no experience in that. Sounds really strange, though none of it are related. Remember to check the oil level while driving. Sounds crazy, but the level reading are the highest when driving with a hot engine
It is really strange as even though I had driven over an hour on highway l, the engine oil level still in the min level. So after I refilled the 200ml engine oil, I don’t know what to do as I shouldn’t be keep refilling the engine oil.
@@klkl5695 I don’t think you should refill. Does it ask for oil? Does it say low oil level? No matter what I would go to a shop to have it checked.
Yes I would go even though oh just had engine oil changed last month
@@klkl5695 And the oil level was correct at that time?
Hola una pregunta que aceite lleva el diferencial de la de adelante

Hi! Are you happy with the car? I have been in the market for one, saying goodbye to my W203 and was wondering what was your experience with this model? Also, after a service, can you reset the service interval manually from the car? Or do you need a diagnosis tool to do it?
I’m not really satisfied with the car. I had a W212 before, much more refined car, that goes for engine, transmission and overall experience with the car. The W205 is made too cheap. Especially the transmission annoys me. Shift too early and sometimes too late. It’s hard to explain, but in the w212 you never noticed the transmission. That said the w205 is faster and the steering is a breeze. Would I recommend it? Not really, I would go for the E class instead, it’s just better build, more refined and…a class above! The service reset is possible in the car without any tester or computer. Just google service reset on a w205.
@@carscloseup Thank you for such a detailed overview :D will consider your feedback. On the other note, how do you feel this OM654 comparing to the OM651? Should I keep myself to the 2.2, or is the 2.0 an ok'ish alternative?
@@alpha-ne4fq You’re welcome! ☺️ The OM654 is more modern, efficient and has more power, but the OM651 is a better engine. It depends on what your needs are; A newer car/engine will statistically be more reliable than an older (OM651), but if it’s only occasionally driving I would stick to the older. On the other hand, if it’s for daily driving fx. to work I would go for the OM654.
How much ya askin ??
Looks like it's a few months old...congratulations on a beautiful car, I'd buy one brand new at the Chevy dealer if I could :)
We had one of these back in the '90s and it was great the first time I drove this green Blazer it fits me like the glove, it was an amazing car very comfortable solid. I just wish find one here.

Hi, I have encountered this problem on my 2010 W212. Suddenly one day the tow bar did not fold out. I have had it in a Mercedes workshop that made an overall check but found no electrical errors etc. so probably it is the type of mechanical error you also have that I have encountered. I now plan to disassemble the towbar myself to see if I can solve it. What does the procedure look like, I guess you need to remove the one-way screw that sits in the plastic casing on one side. Do you have any more tips on how to proceed?
Hi. Note that this tow bar in the video is a manual retractable, not electric operated. Because of that there's a cable from were you retract it, down to the tow bar and that was this mechanism that was stuck/defect. That said it's probably the same principle on an electric operated, but with some sort of servo motor, instead of the cable. No matter what type, it'll be necessary to remove the rear bumper. You might have to be creative to fix it, because there's no parts available out there.... The previous owner of this car, also had the tow bar checked by Mercedes, but there were nothing they could do, other than offer to install a new tow bar!! It took me a couple of hours and has worked flawlessly since I made this video!
@@carscloseup Thanks for the feedback! I actually have the mechanical version of the tow bar that your video shows. I guess the workshop tried to read the possible error code to understand where the problem is even if it is not fully controlled by electronics (there is some kind of electronic safety/warning system). Ok, then I aim to dismantle the rear bumper. As I said, I think there is a one-way screw that needs to be loosened to access the rest, is it something that you remember from your disassembly? I am very grateful for input because there is hardly any information about this problem online.
@@danielfalk5382 As you can see in the video there are 6 screws (laying on the floor) that has to be removed, behind a black cover (laying on the floor near the hammer), to acces the mechanism. Else it is relatively straight forward. It is been awhile since I've done the job, so don't remember anything particular. But take your time and move slowly, then I'm pretty sure you'll succeed...
I’m literally in the middle of doing the same thing to my 72. Still doing the crack repair but real close for the vinyl. What type of glue did you use?
I used a contact adhesive. What kind depends on the fabric you will be using. I tried some strong contact adhesive that you have to brush on, but destroyed the fabric. Ended up using a spray contact adhesive. Good luck with your project👍
@@carscloseup thank you. Is the vinyl holding up well on that curve where you first started gluing it down? I’m worried that it might start lifting from there in time.
@@dannygonzalez5352 Yes at some few points it’s lifting, but some very small spots. What I do occasionally are to heat it up with a heat gun and pressing the spots in place. Seems to help, but I’ll have to see how it’s doing in the summer midday sun! That said, it’s way better than the cracked panel..
I love that sound of the VW air cooled engine
I especially like hearing it sputter/cutting out when it’s backing up
My first car in the early 2000's. Badass but smelled like something died in there. I didn't keep it long because of that.
My family had a 1980 Caprice classic. Interior-wise it wasn't much different than this even though it was 4-door and wine colored in and out. Nostalgia hitting hard.
I once had a 1978 Caprice, as the 1980 model they’re very different from this 1973, smaller but true to the “concept” and still very nice!!
@@carscloseup Some things are ingrained into my childhood memory... Like staring at those side mirror adjustments that my dad sternly warned me never to touch... Sooo tempting for a 5 year old boy. They looked like a video game joystick that I just HAD to try... But was never allowed.
Wow, that thing's exterior is pristine!
Where can I get the right screw for oil bottom?
At any car supply dealer or Mercedes. Where are you located?
Germany, can I buy in Internet ?
@@xangadixxxx6405 There’s Autodoc or I actually bought mine in Germany at Kunzmann.de
Thank you sir thats very helpful, do you know how often the timing chain musst be change? And what about the gear oil by 9g tronic?
@@xangadixxxx6405 The timing chain shouldn't be changed unless it starts making noise. The noise will be at cold start and its a nasty clattering sound for a few seconds. The 9G-Tronic should have service every 100000 km. I had mine serviced recently, but I didn't do it myself, because I have no possibility to flush the transmission. The job was done at a Mercedes dealer, a little more expensive than your regular mechanic/shop, but worth it. Price was around 600 Euros.
Awesome. You selling?
Love it! I had 73 Impala with the side shirts.
Mr Mercedes replaced my springs and now the car sits low at the front, they say and i confirm the correct coded springs are fitted, but they cant get their heads around the springs may be mis colour coded or they were not manufactured to spec. So i say thank you for this video, and cluck Mr Mercedes i will replace the front springs myself !
You’re welcome, glad I could be of help. If you buy the springs at a Mercedes dealer, you’ll get an exact fit as they’ll be ordered according to your VIN number. All aftermarket springs are a gamble and the small difference in price definitely isn’t worth it.
Is it for sale?
No not at this time
This car was a hunk of junk when it came off the assembly line. These cars only lasted 5 years or so before they were junked
The one has lasted for more than 50…never restored.
Awesome car! I own it
Can you write exact oil capacity, and is the oil capacity equal for 220d and 200d with same om 654.920 engine? Thanks.
The exact oil capacity varies. On my 220d it’s around 6.5 liter. On a 200d it should be the same. I started by adding 6 liters, it was enough to bring it just above minimum, the I added 0.5 liter and now it’s just below max.

Cars were beautiful in those days! I still have brochures of the 1971 - 1975 Caprice/Impalas
Nice. My late father had a four door sedan Chevy Impala of the same year model and same colour green. It was a patrol car before it was his.
How do I remove dash board
Only the top part that I'm covering has to be removed. it's fairly easy, 4 screws in the defroster vents, the rest are located in plain sight.

it’s was a 1972 he drove in the movie “Gran Torino” and he kept the car from the movie!
Are family had a new 72 bought out of West Nyack NY . Dark gold ext with black leather. Dad took it straight to Florida with the family of 5 for a vacation. 95mph all day in comfort and style.
Beautiful car.
I know this is a really old video but I was hoping you could respond. I have the same car basically, but mine had pilot seats with headrests! Maybe it is because it is a 1600? Also my main question is, at 2:22 what is that thing on the dash? Is it for you to keep track of your trips? Was that an original accessory? Mine has a black plastic piece there, if that is the intended piece for that hole, I'd love to look for it and get one. Do you know what it is called or where can I find it? Thanks!
Yes it's for keeping track of trips. It was not an original option, but something popular back then, if you car wasn't equipped with a trip odometer. As for the seats i don't think the pilot seat or bucket seat was available in Europe, but I'm not an expert en Beetles. This one on the video was a 1600 cc, too.
Is this car for sale? If so, how much and where is it located?
No it’s not for sale at this time.
